Most American cruisers prefer to play around islands, launching shells from behind cover, and Anchorage’s smoke screen allows her to create an “island” almost on demand. Further, Anchorage’s smoke generator has extended emission and dispersion times typical of American smoke screens. Instead, she features a torpedo armament (unique for an American heavy cruiser) and a Smoke Generator, an unusual feature found on only two other US cruisers - Tier VII Flint and tier VIII Rochester. While most high tier American cruisers have the Surveillance Radar consumable, and Buffalo has a Repair Party, Anchorage mounts neither. Anchorage uses the same hull as Buffalo, and shares a similar play style and role with other American heavy cruisers, but her unique consumable suite sets her apart.
